Prof. Dr. Nuran Zeren Gülersoy

Nuran Zeren Gülersoy graduated as an architect from Istanbul Technical University (ITU) in 1974. She received her master’s degree (1977) and her doctorate (1981) in urban planning. She worked for the Faculty of Architecture ITU between 1977-2018. Presently, she is in the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, FMV Işık University, Istanbul.

She worked in administrative positions as Vice-Rector, member of the University Senate, Head of the Department, and Director of the Urban Research Centre and Social Science Institute at ITU. She is currently a Member of the Board and Secretary-General of the International Planning History Society (IPHS), a Council Member of Europa Nostra, and ICOMOS CIVVIH Group at the international level. At the national level, a member of Europa Nostra Turkey and a member of ICOMOS Turkey and TEMA Foundation.

Her primary areas of interest are urban design, urban conservation, development strategies for the historic part of the urban areas, and detailed physical design of outdoor space. Her professional experience includes urban conservation studies, master plans, management plans, and urban design. She has several national and international research and implementation projects and publications on Turkish and English topics.

She was involved and chaired by several urban planning teams at the national and international levels. She participated in national and international conferences such as IPHS 2010 (Conference Convenor) and CIPA 2004 (Co-Chair). In a group European Union Prize For Cultural Heritage / Europe Nostra Awards 2004, she was awarded Category 2: Outstanding Study and ECO 2002 (Economic Cooperation Organization) Award in History, Culture and Fine Arts.

She participated as an expert in several UNESCO and ICOMOS Workshops and Missions. She also formed groups for urban design, urban planning and urban conservation projects. She worked on Istanbul Project: Zeyrek, Süleymaniye and Yenikapı, supported by UNESCO WHC; Istanbul Earthquake Master Plan prepared for the Greater Istanbul Municipality; and the Technopark Project designed for Istanbul Technical University and Technocity Research Project for Greater Istanbul Municipality. She also conducted Prizren (Kosova) Conservation and Development Plan, Prizren Municipal Development Plan, Istanbul Historic Peninsula Management Plan and Eskişehir Risky Area Urban Development Project.
